• Your data is never shared individually. No personally identifiable information is shared with advertisers or any external party.
• Data is used to improve your experience. Data we collect exists to make predictions more accurate and recommendations more useful. It is not used for advertising.
• You own your data. You can export, correct, and delete your data at any time.

What We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information — email address (authentication only, never displayed publicly), display name, username, avatar URL
• Gaming data — game library, play history, game ownership across platforms
• Post-play ratings — component scores (Feel, Depth, World, Story, Sight, Sound), overall rating, completion status, hours played
• Onboarding responses — platform ownership, play style preferences, difficulty tolerance, visual style preferences, and other taste calibration inputs
• Platform imports — Steam library and play history via official Steam API; Xbox library via official Microsoft API

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — sessions, feature interactions, recommendation views, purchase link clicks
• Country — inferred from your IP address on first sign-in (via Cloudflare). Used for product functionality and aggregate analytics only. Not stored as a permanent profile field.
• Affiliate click data — tracked via cookies on desktop browsers to detect purchase conversions through affiliate partners

Information we do not collect

• Age, sex, gender, or demographic information of any kind
• Real names — only gamertags and usernames
• Your email is an authentication credential only — it is never displayed publicly or used for advertising

How We Use Your Information

• Personalized predictions — generating Playwise Scores, Value Scores, and purchase recommendations tailored to your taste profile
• Taste profile calibration — updating component weights and bias corrections as you rate games, so predictions improve over time
• Play queue prioritization — ranking your owned games by predicted enjoyment and completion likelihood
• Product improvement — tracking prediction accuracy against actual ratings to improve our scoring models
• Service communication — sending account-related emails such as sign-in confirmations, security alerts, and product updates you have opted into

What We Share

We do not sell or share your personal data. If we produce aggregate, anonymized insights, they will never contain information that could identify you.

Service providers

We use third-party services for hosting, authentication, analytics, and error monitoring. These providers receive only the minimum data needed to perform their function and are bound by their own privacy policies.

AI-generated content

Some features use AI to analyze game data. No personally identifiable information — no names, emails, or user identifiers — is ever sent to any AI provider.

Affiliate links

Purchase links may route through affiliate partners. Affiliate tracking uses cookies on desktop browsers. No Playwise user data is shared with affiliate partners.

Your Privacy Controls

You can manage your privacy from your account settings, including deleting your account and all associated data at any time.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data associated with it is deleted. Temporary records such as import logs are automatically purged after 90 days.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal data. You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Privacy & Data.

For California residents (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of any sale of personal information. Playwise does not sell personal information. You will not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights.

For European residents (GDPR)

Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (provided at account creation) and our legitimate interest in providing and improving the service. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.

Cookies and Tracking

• Essential cookies — used for authentication and session management
• Analytics — we use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that do not track you across sites
• Affiliate cookies — used on desktop only for purchase conversion attribution
• No advertising cookies — Playwise does not use advertising trackers or third-party ad networks

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), industry-standard authentication, protection against injection attacks, and rate limiting to prevent abuse.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Playwise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. For significant changes, we will also notify you via email or an in-app notification.
